All Baby Squirrels Go to Heaven

At least that is what we are banking on today.  There was an incident this afternoon at a local school park.  Somehow 2 baby squirrels made their way to the ground from a nest WAY UP in an oak tree.  The perky one, Rockstar, seemed to be looking around for and protecting his sibling, Pearl.  Pearl was not looking too good.  In fact, Pearl had an injury that could not be repaired even after we talked with the North Alabama Wildlife Rehabilitation lady.  A little water and some fruit was not going to cut it.  We had a decision to make and hopefully it's the right one. We have been reading a biography about Mother Teresa in India and how people and babies would be thrown on top of the trash when no one could care for them.  Bailey was very adamant that we did not treat Pearl in the same way.  Since the school was near our church building, we gathered Pearl up in a torn off section of quilt batting I had in the van.  We took her/him and laid him/her to rest behind a railroad tie and beneath some ivy in back of the church's extra one bedroom house.  No box.  No shovel.  We did the best we could.  As Roseann Roseannadanna's father used to say, "If it's not one thing, it's always another.
