P.S. I Cried During This ENTIRE Movie

Have you ever done that?  Cry during an entire movie?  Not just parts but the whole thing.  Well I didn't think it was possible but today I was proved wrong.  I wasn't crying for Holly aka Hilary Swank.  I wasn't crying for their terrible fights.  I wasn't crying for her bad singing or rendition of Betty Davis.  I wasn't even crying for the way Gerard Butler talks out of the side of his mouth.  I was crying for my friend Bonnie.  I was crying for the fire she is walking through.  I was crying for her children.  I was crying for their anniversary.  I was crying for what can no longer be.  I am crying now.  I salute you Bonnie and your kids and your family and his family and your friends.  I pray for you all.  I plead with God to make it easier.  I stand beside you in spirit, in The Spirit.

I had to follow that movie up with something a little less traumatic: Hairspray.  It's got a good beat and it is easy to dance to.  Bailey came around to watch the final scene and I said, "That's John Travolta dressed up to play Tracy's mom."  Bailey said, "Isn't he embarrassed to be doing that?"  Truer words, Bailey, truer words.

Yes Bailey, God Does Like the Razorbacks

Today while the kids were working on sewing projects (it's not just me!) Bailey read the beautiful cross-stitched Razorbacks for Christ plaque we have hanging over our dresser and asked, "Mama, does God really like the Razorbacks?  Does He love Daddy's old men baseball team?"  You see, Scott's baseball team is 1-12 for the season and I guess Bailey is concerned that if God loves that team and the Razorbacks then we might be in for a rough season this year.  I have already heard, "Who are you for?" in the hallway at church. Could be interesting times ahead.  So, yes Bailey, God does love the Razorbacks and Daddy's team and even those crazy ol' Crimson Tide fans.

Shall we dance?

Before you answer, I must tell you that I have read The Dance of Anger and have some fancy footwork to show off.  At first I thought this was a feminist book full of ranting and raving about "the man."  Actually, it is a book about women dealing with anger in a constructive way that gets us out of bad habits and helps us become more fulfilled in our relationships with others.  I saw myself in several chapters.  Translation:  I have a lot of work to do.

The Bee Gees and The Jonas Brothers

Uncle Steven related this conversation he had with Bailey recently:

"Hey Bailey is that the Jonas Brothers?"
"Yes."
"I heard one of them was getting married."
"Yes the oldest one, Kevin."
"How old are they? Around 40?"
"Uncle Steven, you can't be HOT if you are 40."

I had this conversation with Davis in the van on the way back to Huntsville:

"Ooo, this is a good song." Denise
"Who is singing?" Davis
"It's the Bee Gees."
"They sound like Elmo."
"They're from Australia. They are brothers."
"Those are men????!!!"

The D Team

"Welcome Team Ireland!" With those words from Dottie Schulz, our hopeful group became official. Although emotionally worn out from the 2 1/2 day assessment process we are super excited about getting this show on the road. And by "on the road" I mean a lot of traveling to our team's cities of residence for training and also personal study, improvement and reflection. We covet your prayers as we continue in this process so that God will be glorified in Dublin and beyond.

Operator Stupidity

Okay, so we were loaned a GPS from a sweet couple at Central Church in Huntsville to help us get around our new location without too much yelling, gas wasting or swearing. We kept being directed to off- interstate roads, told that we would arrive at our destination in the wee hours of the morning on the next day and our average speed was 30 to 35 miles an hour. There was yelling and some gas wasting but no swearing. Frustrating. When we got close to Memphis on Thursday around 4:30, the GPS told us we would arrive at 1:30 a.m. Friday even though we only had a few miles to go. In a moment of enlightenment I decided to explore the tools and options and discovered that the GPS had been set on bicycle mode the whole time. A more cynical person might blame this on some sick practical joker but we know that technology is not our strong suit and we were victims of our own stupidity. I hope you had a good laugh too.

Chickens With Their Heads Cut Off

Sorry for so long in posting something new, but by the title you can deduce what our life has been like the past week or so. We have traveled from Huntsville to Memphis to Fayetteville. Today Scott, Jo and I leave for Memphis again to be with our team for MRN's Quest. No, we are not going on some delirious Don Quixote style journey fighting windmills. Quest is a weekend of analysis of the psych tests we took earlier this year to make sure that none of us on the team are crazy, to help us understand ourselves better and receive some constructive criticism from qualified professionals. Last weekend we met our newest team members Shay and Juli Smith from Austin Texas. They are expecting a baby girl in November. Criag, Merschon, Ben and Monica were awesome hosts for our July 4th together. We broke the law by using sparklers within the city limits. Good times. Note to self: do not light all the sparklers in the box at once. We got to Fayetteville Sunday night about 8 and the kids were excited to see the new additions to the Karnes' Kids Clubhouse thanks to Grandad and Uncle Hank. Monday we slept in, visited friends in our old neighborhood, ate dinner with family. Tuesday we picked blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. Bailey partyed with Lambri for her 8th birthday, I got two fillings, Davis and Braden had a sleepover, I machine quilted 3 quilts. Wednesday brought lunch with the Bolays, dropping off Lambri, taking Staci to the quilt store, church and Andy's frozen custard. Sunday we will come back to pick up the kids and then get back to Huntsville on Monday. I'm tired. Enjoy the pics of our team and 4th of July festivities.
